Isaiah 55 : 1-2

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Measure of reward

Mark 4: 24 And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you.

The message here is a simple one, the word is not given to us to assuage our ears or solely for intellectual pursuit alone, the word was given that we might put it to use. The bible is not an accessory that complements the outward appearance of the faith we profess, rather it is a both a manual and tool given to equip us in our spiritual journey in life. A manual consist of a set of instructions that must be carried out in order to get the desired result.

The ultimate destination of every word that we hear or read, is to be put to use, it is not useful, nor its power available until it is acted upon.

Our Lord said that the measure to which the word is put to use, the same measure of reward and many more that would accrue. He said somewhere else, that it is the doers of the word that are blessed.

Oh Lord help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to be hearers and doers of the word.

1 Corinthians 15:55-57
“?Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
