Psalm 1: 2-3

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

One with the One who is the lover of our soul

Song of Solomon6:3 “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine; he browses among the lilies.”

It is said that the book of Song of Songs uses the vivid image of a loving relationship between a man and his wife to capture and express the intimacy between God and his people, and in the context of the New Testament between Christ and his bride the Church. If that is the case, then it would take those with a matured mind, those who appreciate, enjoy and respect the sanctity of marriage to be able to comprehend the message of intimacy expressed through the several passages of conversations in this wonderful book.

Unlike the other books of the bible, this is one that requires careful attention and good guidance in order for one's mind to stay and relate the message with everything the other books of the bible have to say about the manner of relationship the lover of our soul is calling us into. Perhaps the one passage that captured my attention is the one expressing how close we ought to be with the one who is the lover of our soul, in the light of the love he has shown and demonstrated to us through the death of Christ on the cross of Calvary.

We belong to him and He belongs to us, we are called to be one with him, in body, spirit and soul. We are his to possess, he made and redeemed us to be his prized possession, to cherish, to love and to shower his affection upon through his blessings, for to this we were redeemed from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light of which he is the King.

On our part, He is ours, our Lord, Master, King and God, to adore, love, worship, praise and to honor with everything that is in us. In his presence we ought to be able to say let everything that is within me bless the Lord. In the world we need to be able to proudly declare, blessed assurance Jesus is mine and I am so glad I belong to Jesus.

In this loving union, while our passion for him may never match his for us, it should never be for lack of effort. We should desire him passionately, seeking him and his presence above all things. As the deer pants for water, so also should our soul thirst after him, like a lion hungry for food, so should we hunger and express such for him, like two young couple who have just discovered the joy of love...so should our passion for him be in everything and every way towards him, desiring to savor every moment there is possible in his presence..

Please Lord may you continue to draw us into your warm and loving embrace, help our desire to be for you and you alone and may our passion for you never wane. Help our heart to stay true to you alone.
