Psalm 1: 2-3

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

The day of his comforting

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. - Joel 2:28 – 30.

If the preceding verses speak of gloom and doom that results from the sinfulness of God's people, if it speaks of the judgment and the wrath that has come because of their disobedience and their sinful nature, if these verses speak of the afflictions that has come as a result of falling away from God and the loss of the peace and joy which being in his presence brings to all who fear and honor him...this verse on the other hand speaks of the promised day of respite from the God who abounds in mercy and love.

This verse and the ones that come after it, speaks of that glorious day when the Lord will visit his people with his salvation, restoring to them that which sin and sinful nature has taken away from them, the verse speaks of the day when the Lord shall pour out his spirit upon  all flesh.

If one of the hallmarks of the days of gloom and doom is the cry of anguish, one that cannot not understand why the Lord is far away and out of reach, this verse talks of the day when the same people will experience his glorious presence marked not only by the outpouring of his spirit, but also by the great deeds of salvation which the Lord shall accomplish through his anointed one Jesus the Son of God!

The promise is available to all who are under the burden of sin , it is available to all ensnared by the power of the sinful nature and are powerless to save themselves from the bondage.

But the promise is available on one condition:

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.-Joel 2:32

That day is here , we are living out that day and just as the scripture declared, ‘Now is the day of Salvation'

Matthew 1:20-21
“But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ?Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.?”
