Isaiah 55 : 1-2

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

  • The Place Called Peniel

For those who are familiar with the story of Jacob, the name or the place called Peniel would not sound strange to them at all, I say so because of the event that took place at this place. For the sake of those who not are familiar with the story, let us revisit this place and recapture the event that took place there and why it is worth talking about.

  • The realities of the new birth

There are couple of biblical truths which we all as believers should know about our new status, the one that is conferred on you when we become a born again believer. I want you to know that being called a born again is not a fad nor is it some fanciful tag that we give to ouselves in order to impress our fellow Christian believers. In this exposition we would be exploring some of the realities that the new birth presents to those who have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus the Messiah.

  • The Full Armour of God

Apostle Paul mentioned that although we live in this world we do not wage our battles in life in the same ways as those who are of the world do. He went to inform us that our weapons and our battle plans come from the Lord, they are inspired by him. We do not battle the way the word does because we recognise what the true nature of this battle and the foes that each battle pitches us against are. That they can not be defeated by the very weapons with which the world wages her battle. We would therefore be looking at the weapons which the scriptures recommends to us in order to wage a successful battle.

  • It is all about grace of, but what manner of Grace

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age…. (Titus 2: 11 – 12).

No one will dispute the fact that our lives as believers would be meaningless without the grace of God. As believers we were saved by grace and our daily existence in the kingdom of God is by grace. We all subscribe to this grace or so it seems in the light of the different meaning and interpretation that has been given to this grace. So the question would be , what manner of grace do you subscribe to?

  • The word of God

For the word of God is living and active- (Hebrews 4:12).

The word of God is still as relevant to us today as it was to the people of faith that we read about in the bible. The word of God is not dead, it is not obsolete and it has not become irrelevant in our lives. Instead it is living, it is active and it is still as potent as it was when it first came to man. The word is still making the blessings of God available to those who believe it, it is still building up faith, it is still God inspired to make the word work for you, you need to know about the Word.

  • The Image of the Redeemed

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. – Galatians 3:13-14.

What does it mean to be the redeemed of the Lord? Redemption remains an essential part of the gift of salvation that came our way through the ministry of the Messiah. Our redemption covers many areas of our faith walk and getting an insight would greatly help make our faith walk, a rewarding, meaningful and fruitful one. You must know that there is no salvation without redemption.

  • Exposing the spirit of anxiety and worry

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - (Philippians 4:6-7).

Although the word of God clearly instructs us not to be anxious for anything, we still do and we do it to such an extent one would think the word of God is actually instruction us to go contrary to nature. The fact remains the spirit of  worry , anxiety and panic ought not to Lord it over us, we need not yield to this spirit if we only we can recognise the very things that this exploits in order to have his way with us, making us in the process to go contrary to the word of God. Let us examine these factors closely in this exposition.

  • Sin shall not have dominion over you.

No temptation has seized you except that which is common to man. And God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand under it. (1 Corinthians 10: 12-13).

When the scripture declared that as believers are no longer under the dominion of sin and then went on to also declare that those who have been born of God cannot sin any more, the word of God was not ignoring the reality of the proneness of the flesh to sin, neither was it being unrealistic in making these claims. While these claims are positional truths, the word of god on the other hand clearly provide us more insights and heavenly wisdom on how we as believers can attain to these positional truths.

  • The Church of Christ

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. – Ephesians 2:19-22.

  • Faith Talk

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.- Romans 10:17.

While it is true that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, what is equally important is how this hearing comes about. Going through the scriptures we see how the luminaries of faith came into their faith. They heard, witnessed or received testimonies about God and his words through different means, it can be said that the impact felt also varies. Nevertheless it succeeded in achieving one outcome , which was bringing the recipients to faith. Not all of us would see the burning bush or have the 'On the road to Damascus experience' or see and feel the wounds on the palm of Jesus before we can believe. Nevertheless we can still reach out with the aim of benefiting from these experiences by studying the timeless messages which they pass on to us. Just as the scriptures said, these encounters were recorded for our own benefits.

  • About God

Thus says the LORD:  Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the LORD. - Jeremiah 9:23 -24.

The need to know and understand everything we can about the God that we serve cannot be emphasised enough. Not only do we need to know and understand him by the attributes by which he describes and reveals himself to us by, but we also need to understand how these attributes influences his ways and guides his operations. Many have said or carried out things in the name of the Lord that have only succeeded in bringing the name of God to disrepute while dishonouring his holy name instead of bringing glory to him. Such ought not to be if only those who desire to fellowship with him would obey the instructions that he gave through the mouth of his prophet Jeremiah. Is it possible to know God?

  • The call of God

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understandingbeing enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, - Ephesians 1:15-18.

When we hear about the call of God upon our lives what manner of reaction does it bring out in us? Just what does the call of God mean to us, is the call solely for those who are called to go into ministry or can we identity with his call in anyway. What does the call of God entail and what messages does it impact our lives with? These and many other questions I pray that the spirit of the Lord will help us to unravel in this category. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit himself would reveal to us the message behind the upward call of God to us in Jesus name. Amen.
